Agriculture continues to be the backbone of Indian economy and it constitutes one-fourth of the Indian economy. Commercialization of agriculture and allied activities holds key to the accelerated growth of agriculture. The healthy performance of the agriculture sector is vital for the well-being of the entire nation.
Though India is a leading producer of many crops, the farm output per acre is much below the world standards in many cases. Analysis of the current status of agriculture reveals that the poor productivity of agriculture is mainly due to the following factors:
- Existing system of delivery for timely supply of good quality inputs, farm implements and machineries and bank credit are inadequate. Extension services for upgrading farming technologies are not up to the mark. There is no agency close to the production centers, which can provide total solution to the farmers for raising productivity, improving quality and marketing at remunerative price from a single window. Lack of remunerative price acts as disincentive for achieving higher productivity and better quality.
- Improving productivity is the only answer to encounter problems like shrinking land under cultivation because of urbanisation, increased demand for food. As we see, it becomes all the more imperative to empower the farmers by enhancing their capability and their sources of income.
The most critical needs are access to timely and cost effective delivery of adequate inputs , information/advice and credit facilities. The concept and vision of should be based on identifying these critical needs of the farmer.
AGRI INPUT CENTRE will be pivotal in providing value-added service to farmers and will help in improving their quality of living.

Role of agri input centre in agriculture development
UA AGRO is setting up stores with the core proposition of offering value, convenience and trust to the customers. The Centres are self-reliant stores offering range in Agri inputs like Seeds, Chemicals, Pesticides, Bio pesticides, Fertilizers etc. & Agri -related implements & tools, cattle feed and technical expertise ,extension services at a single location. These centres are located in rural areas at the door-step of the farming community and make shopping a pleasant experience.
The objective of the UA AGRO network is to enable and empower the farmer by providing information on new and improved agronomic practices and by facilitating better and more efficient use of agricultural inputs resulting in enhancing output thus generating more value for farm produce.

The farmers find it extremely difficult to know the proper use of fertilizer, which should match his soil. In using a fertilizer he must take into account the requirement of his crops and the characteristics of the soil.
The basic objective of the soil-testing programme is to give farmers a service leading to better and more economic use of fertilizers and better soil management practices for increasing agricultural production. High crop yields cannot be obtained without applying sufficient fertilizers to overcome existing deficiencies.

ROLE OF THE EXTENSION SERVICE IN SOIL TESTING
The actual analysis of the sample and the making out of fertilizer recommendation is only part of the soil testing service. To a large measure, the efficiency of this service depends upon the care and effort put from by extension workers and farmers in the collection and dispatch of samples to the laboratory. Its effectiveness also depends upon the proper follow-through of the fertilizer recommendations, including the establishment of result demonstrations on farmer’s fields to induce the farmers to follow the fertilizer recommendations. In this work the staff of the extension service play the most important role, since they are the people directly in contact with the farmers or this reason, the soil chemist in charge of the laboratory must give periodic and through training to the extension staff on these subjects.
EXTENSION EDUCATION PROGRAMS, INCLUDING TRAINING OF FARMERS.
KISAN GHOSTHIES (FARMERS MEETINGS) being organized at every UA AGRO AIC wherein experts from the relevant fields are roped in to brief farmers on crop specific new practices and addresses crop related problems being faced by farmers with a view not only to maximizing the yield but also produce disease free output. An event calendar should be drawn every year in advance for each centre which is well publicized. Even farming community are sent reminders before the event through SMSs & other means. Even special seminars are organized on the topics of interest suggested by farmers. Three types of meeting should be organized.
- Village Meeting (VM) - organized at village level by Agriculture specialist from AIC twice a week. These meetings are held in a village chaupal with a gathering of 20 to 25 farmers. The subjects in these meetings are specially related to present crop scenario.
- Bimonthly Farmer meeting (FM) – organized at a AIC in Bimonthly manner. These meetings are subject specific and addresses by Subject Matter Specialist from agriculture institutions, agriculture universities krishi vigyan kendras and senior persons of major companies from chemical & seed industries. The subject of these meetings are focused on pest management, fertilizer management, micronutrients requirement, Bee keepings, orchard management, cattle feed and nutrition/medicine etc.
- Night Meeting – these meeting are held in a village after 6 PM so that the films are clearly visible to the farmers. These shows are basically equipped with audio visual aids. The subjects of these meetings are based on a crop specific like Flower, Medicinal, Vegetable and Fruit Crops. The impact of night meetings among the farmers found remarkable impression due to clear visual pictures.
FARMERS HELP LINE
Regular visit of Agronomist to farmer’s fields helps in addressing problems in crop on the spot Followed by communication through SMSs in this regard .Further HELPLINE operating from Company's Headquarterr should be in place to render expert advice to farmers. The Company may introduce voice based SMSs to farming community in their local dialect from the call centre.
The AIC network should reflects the Company's belief that technology can and must be harnessed to solve India's social and economic problems.
SPRAY FRANCHISE
We may start spray franchise to help and over come the problem of labour for farmer to save the crop from insect pest. These spray franchisee will be educated (near about junior High School) but unemployed boys from the Local villages and trained by specialized trainers not only in crop specific but also based on utilization of products, by this we will solve not only the labour problem but also provide the employment. These spray franchises will equipped with protected safety kit including apron, gloves, face mask, cap, goggles etc. the spray machine will be provided to the franchises to facilitate farmers from AIC with plant protection chemicals, soluble fertilizers and micronutrients as per the guidance of agriculture specialist.
PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITY PRODUCT SPECIFIC
Under the promotional activities we suggest farmers for various new technologies to enhance the crop productivity by providing special crop packages, Line sowing and Soil testing with Government collaboration. The promotion of soluble fertilizer is a very remarkable activity for the farmers where the economic gain by the crop is high as compared to the bulk/soil fertilizer.
